The BSA Applied Sociology Group represents and supports sociologists who are fully or partly situated outside of academic institutions. We are a reminder that not all sociologists work in university settings, and that sociologists do a multitude of jobs, or may be self-employed or non-employed.

The Group is engaged in work to further the objectives of sociologists beyond the academy, and to reach out to sociology graduates in all walks of life, in the UK and internationally. Our blog features some of the work being undertaken by ASG members.

We welcome students and recent graduates, and encourage you to explore the Jobs and Careers page for more information on how to work as an applied sociologist.

On this site you will find details of one of our current projects: the development of UK applied sociology.  This includes a model curriculum, which we offer free to all UK universities, to adapt as part of their sociology programme.
