{"id":1533,"date":"2018-03-08T03:58:32","date_gmt":"2018-03-08T03:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/appsoc.org.uk\/?page_id=1533"},"modified":"2018-03-08T09:49:13","modified_gmt":"2018-03-08T09:49:13","slug":"assessment-suggestions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/appsoc.org.uk\/?page_id=1533","title":{"rendered":"Assessment Suggestions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>We have suggested a range of possibilities for how to deliver the learning outcomes, with possible formative assessments.\u00a0 Many of these could be also adapted to provide summative assessment. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Some of the learning outcomes identified in this curriculum are suitable for more traditional assessment using essays or short answers, either in examination conditions or by continuous assessment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, given the subject-matter of this curriculum, course leaders may consider it more appropriate for summative assessment of this module to be based around a significant practical component.\u00a0 If a placement or other practical component is incorporated, then typically a report would enable many of the learning outcomes to be measured.\u00a0 This report might be structured, to ensure specific LOs are assessed.\u00a0 Other assessment formats include:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span> <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h6><span>A final report to be presented to an actual or imagined placement organisation\/client, to address a situation or problem.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h6><span> <\/span><span>A reflexive account of a practical activity undertaken during the module, using sociological frameworks, concepts and theories to illustrate an applied sociology approach.\u00a0 <\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h6><span> <\/span><span>A portfolio of work (report, reflection, blog articles, video) relevant to the curriculum in applied sociology.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h6><span> <\/span><span>Secondary analysis of data, to inform an applied sociology issue.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<h6><span> <\/span><span>An essay on a problem that, according to the literature or media, impacts on an organisation or community.<\/span><\/h6>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have suggested a range of possibilities for how to deliver the learning outcomes, with possible formative assessments.\u00a0 Many of these could be also adapted to provide summative assessment.
